Who are SJH Carpets and Flooring?
Our History
SJH Carpets was started by Simon Howell in 2001 at his home in Wincanton, later moving to the current premises at Tythings Commerial Centre. John Calder joined forces with Simon in 2004, opening the Tisbury High Street shop and then in 2017 SJH opened a further shop in Langport. Together they form what is now the renowned SJH Carpets & Flooring.
In the Summer of 2022 we opened our new Amtico One Premier Partner showroom in Tisbury, and working alongside our sister stores in Wincanton & Langport; who added Amtico stands to their stores in 2023/24, we aim to become the first port of call for Amtico customers in our area.
In the Autumn of 2022 both Wincanton and Tisbury became Alternative Flooring Play Partners after installing their new premium stands.

At SJH we strive to keep ahead of new trends and products, from traditional carpets through to natural products such as Sisal, Coir and Seagrass. Our hard flooring products range from solid and engineered wood to LVT’s and vinyls.
At our Wincanton store you can choose from an array of inspirational and bespoke home soft furnishings, from fabrics to blinds and shutters of various colours, which will design match with any flooring & furnishings you may have in your home. We stock Little Greene Wallpapers and Paint so you can shop in one place to complete your room design.
We also offer a whipping service for your extra pieces that may be left over from fitting. You can have them whipped into neat small rugs at our Wincanton shop. Just pop them in to the shop anytime you are passing and we will ring you when they are ready for collection.

Essential skills
At SJH Carpets & Flooring we believe it is important to pass on the essential skills from some of the best craftsmen in the Southwest, and so we offer all of our young employees apprenticeships so that they not only learn these skills but can also learn the latest methods in the trade.
Our team of fitters are all employed, which is an important consideration when choosing a flooring contractor. They are all highly trained and are accredited fitters for our prestigious flooring partners, Amtico, and Roger Oates Design.

SJH WOOL
Director of SJH Tisbury John Calder and his partner Heidi have branched out into the world of British wool produce with their small flock of Suffolks, Jacobs and Shetlands.
They graze their sheep in the beautiful Wilshire countryside close to their home and use local resources to make core spun yarn and raw fleece for spinning, felting and crafts.
Heidi and her daughter Maisie make peg loom rugs and felted fleeces along with designer cards, which are sold at local craft fairs and in the Tisbury Shop. You can also buy bags of raw fleece in the shop.
